What a historic place. Great to contemplate God's will be done
Great free entry castle. Information displays in many areas. You have access to all areas of the castle, nothing is cordoned off which is nice and unusual. Ice cream van outside which is a fair price and good quality.
Free entry April to October. Owned by English Heritage, information boards provide some information about the site which was the mediaeval seat of the bishops of Winchester. Adjacent to the current Bishop's palace, an interesting English baroque building in current use so rarely open to visitors.
Ok, it's not exactly a castle but only the ruins of it. Despite this, it is a very interesting site, well worth the visit. Best of all, the entry is free!
Great place for exploring with young and old alike!Unfortunately our visit coincided with a downpour, oh dear!!, what a mud-walk it was English Heritage or/and the Archbishop of Winchester should join forces to make this site more accessible to everyone.
